Subfamily
A division of a family, standing between the family and the tribe or genus in taxonomy. The scientific name of a subfamily ends in '-inae'. The wildfowl family (Anatidae) is divided into three subfamilies, of which two have representatives in the British Isles, namely the Anserinae (swans and geese) and the Anatinae (ducks). From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
