Taxonomy
The scientific classification of living things. Each taxonomic division (taxon) is based on what is known or suspected of the evolution of the group concerned, mainly on the evidence of features of its anatomy, and each taxon is given a scientific name. Taxonomy is also called 'systematics' and, with regard to animals only, 'faunistics'.From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
