Fat

A source of quickly usable energy, fat is especially valuable during times of bad weather. It can be supplied to birds by feeding kitchen scraps such as meat, bones and pastry, or in the form of suet or homemade or purchased bird cake. Commercially available foods for birds based on fat include bars made up of suet mixed with other ingredients such as seed, flour made from peanuts and even dried insects. Fatty foods are often hung, attracting tits, nuthatches and sometimes woodpeckers.
