British Trust For Ornithology (BTO)The British Trust for Ornithology is a charitable organisation founded in 1933 to carry out scientific research on birds, largely through the medium of co-operative surveys involving its members (now over 10,000). Among its many projects the following might interest people who enjoy feeding birds and putting up nest boxes:
- Breeding Bird Survey
- Nest Record Scheme
- national nest box week
The BTO also runs the British ringing scheme, and if a ring is found on a dead bird it should be removed and sent to the Ringing Office at the Trust, whose address is at The Nunnery, Thetford, Norfolk IP24 2PU, UK.
