Song
A more or less complex series of sounds produced by a (usually male) bird for the purposes of attracting a mate and/or defending a territory against others of its species. Bird song is not necessarily melodious, nor is it confined to the so-called 'songbirds' (oscines). Song is not always produced vocally, as a few species have instrumental song. All sounds made by birds which do not have the function of song are regarded as call notes. From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
