New World sparrowA member of the group of birds within the bunting family (Emberizidae) generally called 'sparrows' in North America, although unrelated to the sparrows (family Passeridae) of the Old World. A few examples have wandered to the British Isles, such as the Fox Sparrow Zonotrichia iliaca and the Song Sparrow Z. melodia.
