New World sparrow

A member of the group of birds within the bunting family (Emberizidae) generally called 'sparrows' in North America, although unrelated to the sparrows (family Passeridae) of the Old World. A few examples have wandered to the British Isles, such as the Fox Sparrow Zonotrichia iliaca and the Song Sparrow Z. melodia.
