Nycticorax nycticorax

A free flying colony of the American race (hoactli) has existed at Edinburgh zoo since 1951 — five to ten birds currently breed. Also, at Great Witchingham in Norfolk, a similar sized colony of free-flying birds of the European race breeds in a Grey Heronry.
