Eagle Owl

Bubo bubo

This is not a native bird but escaped pairs have successfully bred in Northern England (1997) and Moray and Nairn (1984 & 1985). In their natural range in Northern Europe Eagle owls kill many other owls from within their extensive territories and many ornithologists think the escaped birds should be returned to captivity. However they would, of course, seek full protection for natural colonists!
