Common Rosefinch (Scarlet Rosefinch)

Carpodacus erythrinus

UK ConservationSmile

This is a species that has galloped across Europe colonising new countries over the last century. First breeding (Scotland) was in 1982 and again in 1990. There were then up to eight pairs breeding in Yorkshire and Suffolk during 1992 but this did not indicate they had really arrived — one more pair in 1997 is all we have had proved so far. There was a singing male in Co. Mayo in 1998. Ten or more singing males in a year regularly — when the females come they will become properly established.
