Residents

Species of which examples can be found in a particular area at any time of year, as opposed to summer visitors or winter visitors. The same individuals of a resident species, however, are not necessarily present all year round, as most such species are actually partial migrants. Thus although Song Thrushes may be seen in a particular garden all through the year, the breeding pair may be replaced in winter by visitors from Scandinavia. A truly resident bird, which stays in one place all the time, is described as sedentary.
