Harmful FoodsSome edible matter is not liked by birds and a few foods are actually dangerous. Among items which are not eaten are banana skins and the peel of citrus fruit, together with residues such as shells, husks and bones, which should be cleared up regularly. Dangerous items include the following:
- Foods containing high concentrations of salt, such as crisps, rind from salt bacon, and of course salted peanuts;
- Spicy foods like curried meat and strong sauces;
- Desiccated coconut, which swells up inside the birds' stomachs with fatal results.
Needless to say, these foods should never be offered to birds.
