Spotted Sandpiper

Actitis macularia

A pair of this vagrant North American species, closely related to the Common Sandpiper, attempted to breed on Skye in 1975. The first breeding record for Europe (one probably paired with a Common Sandpiper) produced young in Yorkshire in 1991!
