Postage Stamps Can Give Birds a Boost

Bird On! News
4th January 1997

The RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) in Britain can give birds a helping hand by collecting used postage stamps! This may seem weird but there are huge numbers of stamp collectors in the UK and they consume used stamps like there is no tomorrow! There are even marketing schemes with little packs of used stamps inserted with breakfast cereals! This encourages new stamp collectors ....

The RSPB uses their volunteers to sort through the stamps to make up packs which are sold through stamps shops and special offers. The franked stamps you have may not be worth anything much to local people in the USA, Brazil or Australia (to mention the most recent three countries to contact Bird On! ) but they are well worth the trouble of sending to the RSPB in the knowledge that birds will benefit.

The RSPB is a very big and worthwhile organisation seeking to recruit its millionth member soon. Their work is not just in Britain but throughout the World as a very active Bird Life partner.

Please send your used stamps torn or cut from the envelope or packing -- without damaging the stamps to --
