Royal Society For The Protection Of Birds (RSPB)

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds is a charitable organisation founded in 1889 and concerned with the conservation of birds in the United Kingdom and increasingly abroad. It acquires and manages nature reserves (now over 100), evaluates and lobbies against the various threats to birds, helps the police to enforce the protection laws, co-operates with other organisations, and educates the public about conservation of the natural environment. The junior branch of the RSPB, catering for young people under 18, is the Young Ornithologists' Club. With a membership of over a million, the society is a powerful force working for conservation. It can be contacted at The Lodge, Sandy, Bedfordshire SG19 2DL, UK (telephone 01767-680551).
