Encyclopaedia of Birdcare
Monitoringfeeding birds and using nest boxes provides excellent opportunities for studying the feeding behaviour and breeding biology of birds, and small projects can be carried out simply for enjoyment. More serious monitoring can yield valuable data on, for example, numbers, seasonal trends and breeding success. Studies may be made on an individual basis, or as part of a co- operative scheme, such as those organised by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO). The results of any monitoring are likely to be fascinating, and could be valuable for conservation of birds.
