Mesh-Type Feeders

Devices for feeding birds consisting of a plastic or, preferably, stainless steel mesh in the form of a tube, with or without perches provided. Like tubular feeders, they are normally hung by means of a loop from bird tables, branches or other supports such as scroll hooks or sky hooks. They are designed to hold peanuts, the mesh size on good quality models preventing the birds extracting whole ones, which have been known to choke nestlings. The best examples have rust-proof alloy fittings and removable parts for easy cleaning. Like other hanging feeders, they are intended to attract birds such as tits, Greenfinches, Siskins, sparrows, Nuthatches and woodpeckers.
