Dependence On Feeding

If feeding birds is carried out on a regular basis, the birds may become dependent on the food provided to the extent that they may suffer if the supply ceases. Periods of inclement weather or times of particular stress, such as chick rearing, would worsen such a problem for the birds. When starting to put out food, therefore, it is worth considering if the commit- ment can be maintained, bearing in mind possible absence from home, illness or counter-attractions. In case of any difficulties, perhaps neighbours, relatives or friends might be able to help.
