Wing formula
The arrangement of the tips of the primary feather of a bird's wing, expressed as the amount by which each primary is shorter than the longest. Wing formulae can be useful in studies of moult and in the positive identification in the hand of very similar species.From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
