Voous Order

A sequence for listing birds devised by the Dutch ornithologist Professor K. H. Voous, first published in 1977. It is a modification of the older Wetmore order and takes into account recent developments in taxonomy. The Voous Order is now used in most scientific work and has been adopted by the editors of the new handbook The Birds of the Western Palearctic. It is used wherever birds are listed in this dictionary.
