Ringing permit
ringing permit Authorisation for ringing birds, being a legal requirement in the British Isles. Such permits are issued by the British Trust For Ornithology to those who have undergone the necessary training, which is both rigorous and lengthy. In addition a ringing licence is required from the Nature Conservancy Council, (or, as appropriate, from the Manx government, Northern Ireland Department of the Environment or Irish Forest and Wildlife Service), as under the bird protection laws it is illegal to catch most species of birds without such permission. From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
