Quadrat
A square sample of ground. A quadrat can be of any size, and this method of sampling can provide data, for example, on the density of plants or invertebrate animals per square metre, or on the bird population of a square kilometre (or grid square).From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
