Pelvic Girdle

This is the very important fusion of bones providing the basic structure on which the legs are hung and through which the cloaca runs. Unlike most other animals the lower front of the pelvic girdle is not closed but remains open (except in the Ostrich). This is probably to allow the passage of the egg when the female lays it.
