Direction finding during migration. Birds seem to have a 'sun-compass' which enables them to navigate by the sun or the stars and a 'biological clock' by which they can compensate for time of day, although the location and mechanisms of these capabilities are not known.From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
