Mud flat
An area of soft intertidal mud, not covered with vegetation. If it is invaded by plants, it becomes a saltmarsh. In winter and at migration times mudflats may attract huge wildfowl and wader flocks.From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
