Moon watchingObservation of the moon's disc in the hope of seeing birds on migration passing across it. Many small passerine birds migrate at night, thus leaving the daylight hours free for feeding, and they are identifiable by their call notes as they pass over. Moon watching gives an indication of the numbers and directions involved in such migration.
