Lesser Snow Goose
One of the two subspecies of the Snow Goose Anser caerulescens. It has the scientific name A.c. caerulescens; the other subspecies is the 'Greater Snow Goose' A.c. atlanticus. The lesser race has two 'colour phases', a white one and a blue-grey one, the latter being called the 'Blue Goose'. These phases are not regarded as subspecies, but merely as examples of dimorphism. From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
