Arctic-breeding duck (family Anatidae) which remain as far north as possible during winter, and so are best seen, in Britain, in northern Scotland. Examples are the King Eider Somateria spectabilis and the Long-tailed Duck Clangula hyemalis.From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
