Game bird
A bird which may legally be shot during its particular open season. Although the term is often used simply to refer to gallinaceous birds, in fact game birds include many species of wildfowl, the Moorhen Gallinula chloropus, the Coot Fulica atra and a few species of wader.From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
