Field Studies Council
An organisation founded in 1943 to promote all kinds of outdoor studies. It organises the type of courses which are based on a field centre. The Council's headquarters are at Montford Bridge in Shropshire, and it has nine field centres in various parts of England and Wales. Its counterpart in Scotland is the Scottish Field Studies Association, which was founded in 1945 and is based near Blairgowrie in Perthshire.From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
