Dark-bellied Brent Goose

The subspecies of the Brent Goose Branta bernicla which breeds mainly in Arctic Asia and has the scientific name B.b. bernicla, as opposed to the Pale-bellied Brent Goose B.b. hrota, which is the subspecies breeding in Arctic Canada, Greenland and Spitsbergen. Both races occur in the British Isles in winter, bernicla being found mainly in eastern Britain and hrota in Ireland and Western Scotland.
