ColonyAn assembly of birds for breeding. Truly colonial species like the Gannet Sula bassana and the Rook Corvus frugilegus breed in dense agglomerations, while others can be described as 'semi-colonial' and nest in 'loose colonies', examples being the Lapwing Vanellus vanellus and the Goldfinch Carduelis carduelis.
