Cold searching
The practice of attempting to find nests simply by looking in suitable places. It is most successful where nest site potential is limited. 'Hot searching' consists of trying to flush a bird during incubation, usually by lightly tapping the vegetation with a stick. This method would be useful where birds are nesting in thick cover, but does not comply with the Birdwatcher's Code of Conduct. From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
