British Ornithologists' Union

The 'official' (and oldest) British ornithological organisation, founded in 1858. Its purpose is the advancement of the scientific study of birds anywhere in the world, and this academic and international outlook is reflected in its quarterly journal 'The Ibis'. The BOU is the keeper of the official British List. Its headquarters are at the Zoological Society of London.
