Atlassing
Collection of data for use in compiling an atlas showing the distribution of birds in the area concerned. Since the pioneering work of the British Trust For Ornithology and the Irish Wildbird Conservancy in 1968-72 (resulting in The Atlas of Breeding Birds in Britain and Ireland), several European countries have produced breeding bird atlases. The European Ornithological Atlas Committee, formed in 1971, co-ordinates these activities. From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
