The facility of changing magnification quickly and smoothly without the necessity of taking the eyes off the object being viewed. Zoom telescopes are frequently used by birdwatchers but the zoom facility is not thought necessary for binoculars, and is seldom found.From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
