Wing bar
A line across the wing contrasting in colour with the rest of it. A long and fairly wide wing bar, such as that of thte Black-tailed Godwit Limosa limosa, may be called a 'wing stripe'. Wing bars and stripes are important identification features in many species, for example in some types of wader.From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
