Spur
A bony outgrowth from the tarsus covered, with a horny sheath and having a sharp point, found, for example, in the male Pheasant Phasianus colchicus. Spurs are used in fighting and are capable of inflicting serious injury.From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
