Scrape
A shallow water-filled hollow excavated at a nature reserve in order to attract water birds, particularly various types of wader. The original example was 'The Scrape' at Minsmere in Suffolk, a reserve of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. The term is also used with reference to a nest scrape. From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
