Nest lining
The innermost layer of the nest. The eggs rest on the nest lining and it is usually made of finer material than the rest of the structure, feathers, hair and soft plant parts being much used by smaller birds. The lining in the nest of the Song Thrush Turdus philomelos consists of pieces of rotted wood or dung stuck together with saliva. From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
