Lek
An assembly of birds for the purposes of communal (or social) display, originally referring to those of the Black Grouse Tetrao tetrix but now also applied to the similar gatherings of the Ruff Philomachus pugnax. On the display-ground ('arena' or, in the case of the Ruff, 'hill') the males defend small patches of ground called 'courts'.From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
