Inner toe
The 'second' digit of a bird's foot, being the toe pointing towards the midline of the body. The 'first toe' is the hallux, which usually points backwards, the 'third toe' is the middle toe, which points more or less straight forwards, and the 'fourth' toe is the outer one, pointing away from the midline of the body. The arrangement is different in birds with syndactyl(e), totipalmate and zygodactyl(e) feet. From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
