Feather mite
A member of the arachnid order Acari (which also contains the ticks) living as an ectoparasite among a bird's feathers. These mites are very common among birds, and they feed on the feathers themselves and flakes of skin, rather than by sucking blood.From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
