Endangered species
A species whch is likely to become extinct if its population declines further. No species which breeds in the British Isles is in danger of worldwide extinction at present, but a few, for example the Wryneck Jynx torquilla and the Red-backed Shrike Lanius collurio, may well cease to be British breeders. From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
