Diving duck
A duck (family Anatidae) which habitually dives for food, as opposed to a Dabbling Duck. The main groups of diving ducks found in the British Isles are the pochards (tribe Aythyini), the eiders (tribe Somateriini) and the Scoters, goldeneyes and sawbill ducks (tribe Mergini).From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
