Colony
An assembly of birds for breeding. Truly colonial species like the Gannet Sula bassana and the Rook Corvus frugilegus breed in dense agglomerations, while others can be described as 'semi-colonial' and nest in 'loose colonies', examples being the Lapwing Vanellus vanellus and the Goldfinch Carduelis carduelis. From Peter Weaver's Birdwatcher's Dictionary
